Our Festival concerts lead by London-based cellist Corentin Chassard enter their third year and are earning a growing following. It is with very great pleasure that we welcome back to Thornham this talented group of musicians.
The opening concert on Friday evening frames a short work by one of the giants of 20th century music, Witold Lutosławski, with classic string quartets by Haydn and Schubert. At lunchtime on Saturday the reed organ in Thornham Parva creates the opportunity for a performance of a beautifully unusual work by Dvořák, and we will again hear the spectacular Handel passacaglia in the arrangement by Johan Halvorsen. The weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon with the opportunity to compare solo performance os works by J. S. Bach, with the ensemble joining together to give us the great clarinet quintet by Brahms.
An exciting weekend is in prospect, further details are below. See below for more details of an informal event on Saturday evening.
